Maine Fire Fighter Awarded the Bronze Star
February 19, 2010 – Augusta, ME Local 1650 fire fighter James
Worcester has been awarded the United States Armed Forces Bronze Star Medal for
brave actions he took on June 3, 2007. Worcester is a member of the National
Guard and serves as a Sergeant in Company A, 1st Battalion, 121st Field
Artillery Regiment.
In 2007, Worcester was serving as a Truck Commander and Medic in
support of operation Iraqi Freedom. During his tour, a fellow soldier was
wounded by an improvised explosive device.
Worcester responded quickly, providing emergency medical aid. He
was able to stabilize the wounded soldier and sent him to a secure medical
facility via MEDEVAC.
Upon review, United States Army officials deemed Worcester’s
actions saved the life of that soldier, making him worthy of the Bronze Star
Medal.
Worcester is now preparing for another deployment. This time, he
will go to Afghanistan for a year-long tour.
