Fire and Police Winter Olympics Open to Fire Fighters Worldwide
December 17, 2009 – The California Fire and Police Winter
Olympics is set for March 7-11, 2010. This will be the 30th year for the event
and the second year it has been open to international competitors.
Several IAFF members sit on the event’s executive board,
including Chino Valley, CA Local 3222 fire fighter Jeff Heringer, San Bernardino
County Local 935 fire fighter Josh Wilkins, Hermosa Beach Local 3371 fire
fighter Aaron Bush, retired Los Angeles County Local 1014 fire fighter John Laur,
Los Angeles County Local 1014 fire fighter Michael Inman and Los Angeles City
Local 112 fire fighter Martin Rivera.
“The best part about the event is that skiers and snowboarders
of all ages and abilities come out to compete, so anyone can participate,” says
Heringer. All competitors are classified by age and ability. Awards are given
out nightly in each class.
Events include: Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G, Skier Cross ,
Half Pipe and Cross Country.
