Burlington Fire Fighters Break Fundraising Record
December 9, 2009 – Burlington, ON Local 1552 and Joe Dog’s
Gasbar Grill held an annual silent auction benefiting the Carpenter Hospice,
raising a record $17,000 this year.
“Everyone worked hard to make this year’s fundraiser possible,
but our retirees and the restaurant staff worked especially hard knocking on
doors and gathering items for auction,” says Local 1552 President Dan
Vanderlelie. All auction items are donated by area businesses and all proceeds
benefit the hospice.
The partnership between the fire fighters and Joe Dog’s Gasbar
Grill began in 2001 with then-President Gord Muise and then-Vice President Bob
Gartrell. Both retired in 2003, but continue to help organize the event. Over
the course of the eight-year partnership, a total of more than $350,000 has been
raised for the hospice.
Carpenter Hospice is Burlington’s only live-in facility for the
terminally ill.
