Los Angeles Fire Fighters Escape Gunfire Unscathed

November 20, 2009 – Los Angeles City, CA Local 112 fire fighters responding to a small wildfire on Halloween night narrowly escaped injury after being shot at en route to the fire ground. The fire was located near the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Local 112 fire fighter Amir Kaspian was on Engine 47, one of the first responding units, when something unexpected happened. “I felt something hot go past my ear,” says Kaspian, who rides on the passenger side of the cab.

After a quick assessment of the situation, Engine 47 fire fighters realized that a bullet had come in from the side of the cab, past Kaspian’s ear and out the front windshield. No one was hit.

“We still had a duty to respond to the wildfire, so we called LAPD and asked them to meet us at the scene of the fire,” says Kaspian.

The police are still investigating and no arrests have been made in the case.
