San Bernardino Fire Fighters Offer Berdoo Bucks

November 2, 2009 – San Bernardino City, CA Local 891 fire fighters have launched their own economic stimulus program called Berdoo Bucks to help encourage area citizens to support area businesses.

Working with the San Bernardino Chamber of Chamber of Commerce, Local 891 created the Berdoo Bucks voucher system. For the next 18 months, San Bernardino fire fighters will distribute the Berdoo Bucks vouchers – each worth $20 – to select residential and civic groups that will then manage distribution to individual citizens.

Citizens will have one month to redeem the voucher at participating businesses. Retailers will return the vouchers to Local 891 and the local will reimburse the business using money set aside for community outreach.

“When the economy slows, it affects all of us,” says Local 891 President Scott Moss. “This program will help encourage people to spend money and help keep our local businesses open.”

Local 891’s Charity Committee came up with the idea for Berdoo Bucks as a way to thank local businesses for supporting fire fighter issues in the past.
