Jacksonville Fire Fighters Raise Dollars for Wounded Warriors
September 21, 2009 – Jacksonville, FL Local 122 remembered 9/11
with a moment of silence and a fundraiser for
The Wounded Warrior Project,
which assists severely injured soldiers after they return home.
The Jacksonville fire fighters went head-to-head with members of
the U.S. Army in a charity softball game at Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville,
home to the Jacksonville Suns baseball team. Local 122 fire fighters prevailed
17-11 and raised approximately $10,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
“The Jacksonville fire fighters could not be more pleased with
the success of the charity event,” says Jacksonville Local l22 Director of
Public Relations Mark Treglio. “Jacksonville is home to the Navy Air Station and
a large military retirement community. So, the Wounded Warrior Project is a
worthy charity not only important to the members of Local 122, but to our
community.”
Among the guests at the game was Uniformed Fire Fighters
Association of New York Local 94 fire fighter Don Rudden, who threw out the
first pitch and explained to the crowd of about 800 that he personally knew more
than 100 of the 343 FDNY fire fighters who perished on 9/11.
A moment of silence remembering the fallen fire fighters was
also observed.
