British Columbia Burn Fund Run Raises $14,000
August
27, 2009 -- The 2nd Annual Running Room’s Burn Fund Run raised $14,005.75 for
the British Columbia Professional Fire Fighters (BCPFF) Burn Fund Building
project.
The run was held April 5 at the Abbotsford Running room and three more took
place June 14 at the White Rock/Surrey, Burnaby and Victoria Broadmead Running
Room locations. The Running Room is a chain of running stores predominately
located in Canada.
“We are very pleased with this year’s turnout and hope to make
next year’s run even bigger,” says Director and Vice Chair of the Burn Fund
Building Project Tim Ballie. “We want to expand the run to more locations and
increase adult burn survivor participation.”
The BCPFF Burn Fund Building is a $25 million project that near
both Vancouver General Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital. When complete, it
will offer accommodations for family members of burn victims needing extended
reconstructive care.
Additionally, the building will house a research facility headed
by Dr. Aziz Ghahary, a world-renowned expert in burn and wound healing, and an
education resource centre designed to teach visitors what to do in a fire
emergency, how to prevent burns and what to do after a burn injury.
To date, a total of approximately $8 million has been raised for
the facility.
