British Columbia Fire Fighters to Ride 6,800 Kilometers for Kids
April 9, 2009 -- A team of White Rock, BC Local 2407 are in
training to cycle 6,800 kilometers – from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to White Rock. The
ride is scheduled for September 2010 and will raise money for Variety-The
Children’s Charity.
Local 2407 member Eric Kameka, who is organizing the ride, says,
“We are always looking for ways to contribute to our community when we’re not on
duty. This charity does such great things for kids worldwide that helping them
seemed like the right thing to do.”
The ride will be a relay, with one rider always on the road, 24
hours a day. The goal is to complete the trip in less than two weeks. “This will
definitely be a challenge, as only a couple of team members have experience in
distance riding,” says Kameka.
The Local 2407 team is looking for sponsors and donations. For
