New Mexico Fire Fighter to Promote Cookbook Along Route 66
February
17, 2009 – Cooking has been a lifelong hobby for Farmington, NM Local 2850
member Kipp Rix. In March 2009, his first cookbook, Fire House Cookbook:
Farmington Favorites, will be released so that anyone can make his recipes. To
promote the book and raise money for charity, Rix and several other fire
fighters will be embarking on a motorcycle tour of the historic Route 66 on July
22, 2009.
“We will be stopping at several firehouses along the way to cook
one of the recipes from the book,” says Rix, a two-year veteran fire fighter.
“Right now, three fire fighters will be leaving Farmington with me, but many
will be joining us along the route.”
Assisting the group is the Southwest Red Cross. The coordinator
there will set up sleep accommodations. “We knew, if we had asked, we could have
stayed at some of the firehouses,” says Rix. “But, we didn’t want to over burden
them with all of our motorcycles and travel supplies.”
