South Carolina Local Expands Community Involvement
July
16, 2008 – North Myrtle Beach, SC Local 4637 formed just eight months ago, but
is already boosting its reputation. As a part of the Adopt-A-Highway program,
Local 4637 will keep a two-mile stretch of South Carolina Highway 31
litter-free.
“Being involved with the Adopt-A-Highway program is another way
to let the public know how important community is to us,” says Aaron Asbury,
president of Local 4637.
Beginning in August, North Myrtle Beach fire fighters are
contracted to clean up to four times per year. However, they have pledged to
monitor their two-mile stretch and are willing to do more as needed.
In other community outreach efforts, Local 4637 is raffling a
new Harley Davidson in October. Members will donate the money raised to the
Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia, establish a scholarship in the
name of fallen North Myrtle Beach fire fighter Louis Sauceda and create a relief
fund for members in need..
