Florida Fire Fighter Recognized for Saving a Life
July
7, 2008 – An Ocala, FL Local 2135 fire fighter has been honored with the
American Heart Association Lifesaving Award.
When a 72-year old male patient went into cardiac arrest, Shawn
Rowe responded with his rescue crew to the patient’s home. Rowe began CPR and
administered other life-saving care until the ambulance arrived for transport.
Thanks to Rowe’s actions, the patient was discharged from the
hospital one week later with no complications.
Rowe’s company officer notified the Ocala Fire Rescue
Department’s Award/Commendation Committee about the save. After reviewing the
paperwork, the committee forwarded the information onto the American Heart
Association (AHA) for consideration.
The AHA was impressed and bestowed Rowe with its Lifesaving
Award which was later presented by Fire Chief Dan Gentry during a ceremony at
Fire Station 1.
