Oklahoma Member Gets Help from Fire Fighter Family

April 16, 2007 – When Michael O'Brien became a full-time fire fighter and member of Jenks, OK Local 2567 two years ago, he did not know he was becoming more than a fire fighter, but also a member of a very large family – the fire fighter family. When O’Brien’s mother was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, his fellow Local 2567 fire fighters did what any family would do: they reached out to help their brother.

When O’Brien’s captain (also an IAFF member) heard about the diagnosis in November 2007, he urged local members to help. Local 2567 members, with help from the Jenks Women’s Auxiliary, raised $1,500 to be used toward O’Brien’s mother’s cancer treatment.

O’Brien tells his story in an editorial posted on the Local 2567 web site.
