Help for New York Fire Fighter Battling Cancer
April 10, 2008 – Over the last five years, Uniformed
Firefighters Association (UFA) of New York Local 94 fire fighter Sean McCarthy,
35, has been fighting a courageous battle with cancer. While his medical
insurance has covered some of the treatments, McCarthy reaches his maximum every
year and must pay the difference. To offset the financial stress, the members of
Engine Company 280 and Ladder Company 132 are hosting a fundraiser April 12,
2008, and raffling a Harley Davidson on June 4, 2008.
“When Brother McCarthy’s cancer came back, we all wanted to do
something,” says Tim Conroy, Local 94 member and fundraiser. “This is about fire
fighters helping fire fighters… family helping family. Whey you are fighting for
your life, the last thing you should have to think about is money.”
The April 12 fundraiser will be held at the Bellmore Firehouse
in Bellmore, New York, from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $50 each. The event
features two live bands, food, drinks and prizes.
Harley Davidson raffle tickets are $100 each and will be
available for purchase at the April 12 event, but the winning ticket will not be
drawn until June 4. Click here
for more information about the bike raffle. To purchase a raffle ticket, contact
Tim Conroy at (845) 239-3558 or Tom Bettes at (516) 924-2738.
All proceeds from both fundraisers will help pay McCarthy’s
medical bills. To donate, send checks to:
E280/L132 Commissary
489 St. John’s Place
Brooklyn, NY 11238
Updates on Sean McCarthy will soon be available on E280 and
L132’s newly launched web site.
