Florida Fire Fighter to Run 26.2 Miles to Help Fallen Fire Fighter Family

March 19, 2008 – Clearwater, FL Local 1158 fire fighter Patrick Conrey didn’t know fallen Cincinnati, OH Local 48 fire fighter Oscar Armstrong III or his family, but after hearing about his ultimate sacrifice at a line-of-duty death seminar, he was inspired to do something big to help Armstrong’s fiancé and three children.

Conrey, an 11-year veteran fire fighter and longtime marathon runner, is running the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon in May 2008 as a fundraiser for the Armstrong family.

Armstrong was killed in the line of duty on March 21, 2003, while fighting a fire from inside a residence. He was overcome by a flashover. At the time, it had been 22 years since a Cincinnati fire fighter had died in the line of duty.
