North Dakota President Helps Manage Workers Comp
December 4, 2007 – Ed Grossbauer, president of the Professional
Fire Fighters of North Dakota (PFFND), has been appointed by North Dakota
Governor John Hoeven to the Workforce Safety and Insurance (WSI) Board of
Directors. The board manages the state’s workers compensation system.
“This appointment is in recognition of the good work all North
Dakota fire fighters are doing, and our right to have a seat at the table,” says
Ed Grossbauer. “The board makes important decisions about what happens to fire
fighters if they get injured or sick on the job. I am looking forward to
advocating for our members, as well as all of the state’s workers.”
Grossbauer has previously been injured on the job and has used
the WSI system. While his experience was a positive one, he knows that it has
not worked well for everyone.
“I was one of the lucky ones,” Grossbauer acknowledges. “During
my tenure on the board, I hope to alter the system so that my case is the rule
and not the exception.”
Grossbauer will also have some internal issues to contend with,
including an investigation into some potential illegal activity by WSI
employees.
