11, 2007 – More than 250 fire fighters, family and friends stood outside
Lethbridge, Alberta, City Hall for the Lethbridge Local 237 second Fallen Fire
Fighters Memorial service on September 11, 2007.
“We are honoring the sacrifices made by all fire fighters who
have given their life in the line of duty, serving the communities they have
protected,” said Rob Chollak, president of Lethbridge Local 237, as he addressed
those in attendance. “This should be an uplifting memorial as we celebrate the
lives, heroism and accomplishments of our fellow fire fighters.”
The
ceremony honored 123 fire fighters who have died in the line of duty since
January 2007. As a show of respect to the fallen, fire fighters in dress blues
marched in and took up the first rows. Fire apparatus were also parked in front
of City Hall.
Dignitaries in attendance included: Lethbridge Mayor Bob Tarleck,
Lethbridge City Alderman Rajko Dodic, Parliament Member Rick Casson and a member
of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Alberta Brigette Pastoor.
Local 237 has lost four fire fighters in the line of duty since
it formed in 1920.
