National Firefighters Ski Race Week Hits Slopes in January
July
25, 2007 – The 19th Annual National Firefighters Ski Race Week will be held
January 28-Feburary 3, 2008, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The race is open to
all professional fire fighters and their families.
The National Firefighters Ski Race Week started when a handful
of Denver, CO Local 858 members were looking for new ways to raise funds for the
Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
The event still raises money for MDA with the “Hose Race.”
Participants form teams of three, with each team paying $25 toward charity.
“Many locals donate as much as $100 more because they know it is going to a good
cause,” says Stan Smith, a Local 858 member and event organizer. “Last year, we
were able to raise $2,000 for MDA.”
I n
addition to the fundraiser, a series of races are held during the four-day
event. At week’s end, there is an awards banquet where trophies and medals are
given to all race winners according to age and ability.
Registration for each racer is $300, which includes lift tickets
for all four days and the awards banquet dinner. Lodging and travel are not
included.
To register or for more information visit the event’s
web site.
