Salt Lake City Fire Fighters Back Labor-Friendly Candidate
June
27, 2007 – When Salt Lake City, Utah Mayor Rocky Anderson – a long-time fire
fighter supporter – announced he would not be seeking a third term, Salt Lake
City Local 1645 looked for a mayoral candidate who would continue Anderson’s
commitment to public safety. Local 1645 recently endorsed County Council member
Jenny Wilson for mayor.
“In her time on the Salt Lake County Council, Wilson has
demonstrated her fire fighter support,” says Jack Tidrow, president of Local
1645. “We have endorsed her because we are confident that she will continue that
support and work to uphold the high level of service the Salt Lake Fire
Department now delivers.”
“I am very proud of the endorsement by the Salt Lake City Local
1645,” says Wilson. “I value the vote of confidence in my leadership. The safety
and security of our city's residents is the fundamental building block of
prosperity in Salt Lake City, and I will uphold the standard of excellence
already demonstrated by our city's great force."
In addition to her work has a County Council member, Wilson has
proven her support for labor while serving as Chief of Staff for former U.S.
Representative Bill Orton in Washington, DC, and as one of the 2002 Olympic
coordinators.
Local 1645 has committed to donating $7,500, the maximum
donation the state allows from one organization, to Wilson’s campaign. Salt Lake
City fire fighters also plan to post yard signs, participate in campaign events
and go door-to-door to support the campaign.
