Columbus Local Conducts First Fire Ops
June
18, 2007 – The members of Columbus, OH Local 67 hosted their first Fire Ops 101
June 11-12, 2007. Participants included city council members, a county
commissioner and other local leaders.
“The response we got was very positive,” says Jack Reall,
president of Local 67. “We’ve always had a good relationship with our local
government officials. But, we have some new faces and we wanted to gain their
support as early as possible.”
Local 67 members used what they learned at the IAFF Affiliate
Leadership Training Summit (ALTS) and from the
Fire Ops 101 web site
to plan and implement the event.
Participants rotated through four exercises, including search
and rescue using thermal imaging, auto extrication, learning how to start an I-V
and a fighting a fire.
The event also garnered media coverage by three area television
stations – two of which reported live.
