Knoxville Fire Fighter Sings National Anthem for Ambassador to Poland
July
18, 2006 - Scott Warwick, a fire officer and member of
Knoxville, TN Local 65 received a personal invitation from
Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe to sing the National Anthem
for his Fourth of July celebration. Ambassador Ashe served
as mayor of Knoxville for 16 years and enjoyed a positive
relationship with Local 65 fire fighters during his
administration.
Warwick, who traveled to Warsaw, Poland, to attend the
celebration at the Ambassador’s residence with more than 2,000 political
diplomats from around the world, says, “I was proud and humbled to sing our
National Anthem and to represent the City of Knoxville Fire Department in dress
uniform before such a distinguished audience.”
During his week-long stay in Poland, Warwick visited Krakow and
Auschwitz. In Krakow, he met some of his international brothers. “They were very
friendly,” he says. “We talked about the similarities and differences of our two
fire fighting worlds.”
Warwick has sung at numerous fire fighter memorial services and
other city and civic events.
