Rhode Island Fire Fighters Earn Day of Recognition
June 29, 2006 – After some focused lobbying
by the Rhode Island State Association of Fire Fighters (RISAFF),
the State House of Representatives has unanimously passed a
resolution proclaiming September 11, 2006 to be “Police
Officers’ and Firefighters’ Appreciation Day.”
“One of our goals is to create awareness of the unique dangers
we face as fire fighters, especially among our state and local decision makers,”
says Frank Montanaro, President of RISAFF. “We knew that having this day set
aside for us would help create that understanding. So, along with our state’s
police officers, our lobbyist, Thomas Papa, worked hard to get the appreciation
day resolution passed.”
As part of the resolution, Rhode Island citizens will be
encouraged to take a moment on September 11 to remember and honor all the
dedicated men and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
