Eureka Springs Fire Fighters
Join Powerful International Union
Eureka Springs, AR
– Fire fighters in Eureka Springs have joined
the nation’s largest union representing first responders, becoming the newest
local in the International Association of Fire Fighters.
“We’re proud to have Eureka Springs
fire fighters join this great union,” IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger
said.
Eureka Fire Fighters Local 4708
represents nine fire fighters.
Eureka Springs Local 4708 received
its charter from IAFF 14th District Vice President Danny Todd and Arkansas
Professional Fire Fighters President Peter Reagan on December 16.
“We are proud to be the newest local
of the IAFF. We look forward to working with the mayor and our fire chief to
make our strong, proud fire department even better,” Local 4708 President Jason
Morris said.
Reagan said Eureka Springs is the
25th IAFF local in Arkansas, and there are now nearly 1,600 IAFF members in the
state. The IAFF, headquartered in Washington, DC, represents more than
294,000 full-time professional fire fighters and paramedics who protect 85
percent of the nation’s population.
“We are continuing to increase our
membership in Arkansas,” Reagan said. “That’s good for the fire service and good
for the safety of residents throughout our state.”
Morris said Eureka fire fighters will
help raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association this year. The IAFF is
the largest contributor to the MDA, and fire fighters collected $27.5 million
for the MDA last year.
Local 4708 officers also include Nick
Samac, vice president, Billy Summers, secretary, and Scott Howie, treasurer.
The International
Association of Fire Fighters is the leading advocate in the United States for
the safety and training of fire fighters and paramedics. More information is
