Fire Fighter Challenges Future Florida Speaker of the House
September 19, 2012 – Meet Mike Clelland, a fire fighter who hopes
to defeat Florida state representative Chris Dorworth on November 6. If Dorworth
-- who was the sponsor of the 2010 Florida House Bill that would have eliminated
payroll deductions for public unions -- is elected, he will become Florida’s Speaker of the House
in 2014. Dorworth .
A member of Longwood, FL Local 3163, Clelland is featured in this
video ad designed to introduce him to voters and announce his candidacy.
In a recent poll conducted by the Florida Professional Firefighters (FPF),
Clelland did very well against Dorwroth – within 2 points,
well within the margin of error.
Clelland is hoping to raise money from friends,
family, teachers, other unions and – overwhelmingly – the FPF, its affiliates
and their members. To make a donation, visit the Mike Clelland for State House
web site.
Although his opponent is well financed, he is also encased by allegations of
corruption, an ugly divorce, a four-year foreclosure of his $2 million home and
many other
assertions of misuse of his power in the Florida House.
Clelland, who is running in the district he has lived and worked in since 1974,
is already popular in Longwood where he worked as a fire fighter for 26 years.
