Deadline Approaches
for IAFF Scholarships to the NLC and Harvard Program
A college education can open doors for graduates. For many, the
desire to learn and the ambition to excel are stymied only by the high cost of
higher education. The IAFF offers scholarships for two programs to members in
good standing who wish to pursue college-level education. Applications for these
scholarships are being accepted through July 1, 2010.
The National Labor College (NLC) Scholarship
covers the cost of tuition for one semester, a total of nine academic credits,
room and board, plus $1,000 for travel and incidental expenses. The NLC offers
two formal degree programs in labor studies, a bachelor of arts with six major
areas of study and a bachelor of technical and professional studies with four
concentration areas. The IAFF awards three NLC scholarships annually.

The Harvard
Trade Union Program, an intensive six-week residential session, provides
participants with a unique opportunity to learn about key issues in the labor
movement from Harvard faculty and labor movement experts, including labor
lawyers, labor economists, arbitrators and consultants. This highly competitive
program is limited to approximately 40 students each session. The IAFF awards
two scholarships annually that cover the cost of tuition and $1,000 for travel
and incidental expenses.
