Runners Help Heal Bodies, Hearts and Souls

2, 2009 – More than 86 IAFF members and family members representing 28 states
and one province participated in the 34th Annual Marine Corps Marathon in
Washington, DC to support the IAFF Burn
Foundation, raising more than $93,000 – a new record.
The race weekend included a carb-filled pasta dinner at Washington, DC’s Union
Station for runners, friends, families and supporters. Race day started early
for the runners, and at 8:00 a.m., the more than 25,000 marathoners began the
26.2 mile journey.
Michael Lopez, a member of Winthrop, MA Local 1070, finished with a personal
record of 2:58:16, and was the first male running for the Foundation to complete
the course. Overall, Brother Lopez ranked 147 of the 21,325 runners who finished
the race. Salem, OR Local 314 fire fighter Cory Cochran finished on the heels of
Brother Lopez with a time of 3:03:26.
The top female finisher was Trisha Miller, girlfriend of Missoula, MT Local 271
member Andy Drobeck (who also ran the race), in 3:05:52, ranking 247 overall.
The lone Canadian runner, Fiona Garrioch, the wife of a Brandon, MB Local 803
fire fighter, finished in 3:39:26.
The November-December issue of the International Fire Fighter magazine
will include the names of all runners who raised money and ran in support of the
IAFF Burn Foundation.
The 2010 Marine Corps Marathon will take place October 31, 2010. For more
