IAFF Recognizes National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 5, 2009 – The IAFF encourages members to participate in breast
cancer awareness and fundraising events throughout October –
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Despite the many education and awareness campaign efforts over the last 25
years, many men and women still do not follow doctor-recommended early detection
screenings.
“Fire fighters and paramedics can unknowingly be exposed to a number of cancer
and disease-causing agents at any time, and know all too well how crucial early
detection and treatment is for survival,” says IAFF General President Harold
Schaitberger. “That’s why the IAFF is urging members to help call attention to
this important issue.”
Many IAFF affiliates have organized their own cancer awareness or fundraising
campaigns, including campaigns that call for fire fighters to design and wear
pink work shirts during the month of October.
IAFF members and affiliates can also make a difference in the continuing effort
to find a cure by making a tax-deductible contribution to a breast cancer
charity of choice.
Thank you for your support and commitment to the movement to end breast cancer. |
