MDA Telethon Begins September 6

August 31, 2009 – The 44th Annual MDA Telethon is scheduled for September 6-7, 2009, and will be broadcast live from the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa in Las Vegas. For the past 55 years, the IAFF has been the largest contributor to MDA.

IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger, who will present the check to MDA on behalf of IAFF members, says, “Last year alone, we raised a record $27.5 million for MDA to fund research that is developing effective treatments and working toward a cure. Because this is such a worthy cause, I am encouraging our fire fighters to work hard, as they always have, filling the boot so that we can donate another record amount this year.”

In addition to seeking treatment and cures, IAFF Fill-the Boot campaigns and other fundraisers for MDA help make possible a nationwide network of specialized medical clinics, financial assistance with certain types of expensive assistive equipment, support groups, informative publications and, of course, accessible summer camp for kids.

Additionally, the telethon is hosting an online auction September 1-15 to benefit Jerry's Kids.
