Texas Fire Fighters Killed in Training Exercise

January 25, 2009 -- It is with deepest regret and sorrow that the IAFF reports the line-of-duty deaths of two fire fighters and the serious injuries of with two additional fire fighters with Kilgore, TX Local 2996 during a training incident.

It has been initially reported that the fire fighters were training on a new aerial when the bucket became lodged, and as it broke free the fire fighters were thrown to the ground. Brothers Cory Gallaway and Kyle Perkins were killed. 

Kilgore, Texas, is approximately 125 miles east of Dallas and about 70 miles west of Shreveport, Louisiana.

The IAFF will provide further details as they become available.
