Fire Prevention Week Focuses on Home Fires
October 6, 2008 –IAFF members are encouraged to conduct fire
safety education campaigns in their communities in honor of Fire Prevention Week
2008. This year’s theme is “It’s Fire Prevention Week: Prevent Home Fires!”
Since fire departments responded to nearly 400,000 home fires in
2006, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is focusing the 2008
campaign on home fire prevention. Citizens need to know that, with a little
extra caution, preventing the leading causes of home fires – cooking, heating,
electrical and smoking-materials – can be done.

NFPA launched the Fire Prevention Week campaign 85 years ago,
making it the longest running public health and safety observance on record. |
