Indianapolis Fire Fighter Killed in Iraq

12, 2008 – The IAFF regrets to announce the death of Indianapolis, IN Local 416
member Gary Henry. He was killed August 3 by a roadside bomb while serving in
Iraq. Henry was a Sergeant with the Indiana National Guard’s 38th Military
Police.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, and
Thursday, August 14, 2008, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the G. H. Herrmann Funeral
Home, 1605 South State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana. The funeral will be held
Friday, August 15, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Christian Church, 2045
Averitt Road, Greenwood, Indiana. The burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Military sources say Henry and two other Indianans were on a
combat operation in southern Baghdad when their vehicle was hit by a roadside
bomb. Henry and another soldier were killed. The third was severely injured.
Henry was a 12-year veteran fire fighter who recently oversaw
special operations rescue, specializing as a diver and a paramedic. On the job,
he was known to be very dependable and dedicated. Off the job, Henry was a
devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Regina; children Shelby, Gavin and
Ashtyn; parents Gary Henry and Marajo Castor; sister Jennifer Clark; step-sister
Stevie Ewing; step-brother Jon Castor; and great grandparents Margaret Hawkins,
Orville Henry and Pat Henry.
