Collective Bargaining Bill Is More Than Halfway to Goal of 218 Cosponsors

April 20, 2007 -- Thanks to the efforts of grassroots IAFF activists, 133 members of the House of Representatives have signed on as cosponsors of HR 980, the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act. The number puts the IAFF well on the way to achieve its goal of having 218 cosponsors – a majority of the House of Representatives – and virtually ensures passage of the legislation.

“The cosponsor list clearly demonstrates the bipartisan support for the legislation,” says IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger. “Of the 133 cosponsors, nearly one-third are Republicans, an unprecedented level of GOP support for a labor bill.”
