Schaitberger Joins Senator Lieberman in Tour of Connecticut
July
17, 2006 – After making stops in Fairfield at the Fire Headquarters to visit
members of Local 1426 and to cheer New Britain fire fighters in a charity
softball event against the city’s police officers, more than 100 fire fighters
from across Connecticut joined IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger and
Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut President Pete
Carozza July 16 in support of Senator Joe Lieberman’s re-election.
President Schaitberger introduced Senator Lieberman to a crowd
of more than 200 supporters in Rocky Hill. “The IAFF supports Senator Joe
Lieberman because he’s right on all of our issues,” said Schaitberger. “His
record goes all the way back to his days as president of the Connecticut State
Senate when he held open a floor vote on bargaining rights for state workers to
ensure the bill’s passage.”
“Whether
it’s pushing to get SAFER passed or to get funding allocated to ensure that our
communities get the equipment, training and staffing they need, Senator
Lieberman has always been there for us,” Schaitberger said.
“We don’t look at political party, we look to see where someone
stands on the issues important to this union and the job of our members,”
Schaitberger added. “Joe has always been there for us, and now that he’s in a
tough fight, we damn sure are going to be there with him, fighting to make sure
he returns to the Senate to champion our issues in the future.”
